A multifaceted figure, Pedro da Silveira influenced his younger generation of Azorean writers mainly for having identified himself as an islander and for having attempted a poetic interpretation of the island experience. He did that from his native island of Flores, a prototypical example of an insularity abandoned to geography. But he was also a universal poet who wrote about many facets of the human condition. In addition, he was a scholar, always ready to share his wealth of information with whoever approached him. These three dimensions are evoked here in these three short pieces.
